Round 12
/ Alexander Sims: Qualifying – 2 / Race – 4 / Points – 12
The #29 M8Electro of Alexander Sims finished in fourth place in the 12th round of the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship following a front row qualifying and a 45-minute-long podium position battle. The result came in the second of two races in the Brooklyn area of the city and secured 12 points for Mahindra Racing.
On Saturday, in round 11 of the series, Sims started well when he qualified inside the highly competitive Duels knock-out battles. Exiting the competition after the quarter finals, the Brit started the first race from sixth. The exciting race ended early after a red flag for a multi-car incident in the rain, leaving Alexander and team mate Oliver Rowland unable to battle for a points position.
Sunday proved more fruitful for the team, when Sims qualified in third place in the Duels. A penalty for the pole-sitter then promoted #29 M8Electro powered by ZF to the front row, for what went on to be one of the most exhilarating races this season. Despite some impressive driving, the podium was just out of reach and the team celebrated fourth place.
“Overall, I’m really pleased to bring home some good points for the team. It was the result we’ve been missing all year.
To be able to hold our own at the front was fun and shows what we are capable of. We made some good tweaks from yesterday to hang on to the tyres and that was really the big difference in performance.
That enabled us to get into the Duels, qualify well and made it much easier to control the race.”
